The Toronto Jewish Theatre Committee consists of jurors from the arts community. Last year the jury read 30 plays from four provinces, the US and Israel. Three previous contest winners have been published and have hit the commercial stages: Einstein’s Gift by Vern Thiessen, Sara’s Cave by Don Molnar andYahrzeit by Alex Poch Goldin.
The 2009 Competition Winner is Misha Shulman for his play Martyrs Street which will be workshopped at the Miles Nadal JCC in the fall of 2010 and will be directed by Chris Abraham.

2010 Submission Deadline: June 30, 2010
Submission Guidlines
- Plays should have a Jewish focus, depicting some aspect of Jewish life.
- Playwrights need not necessarily be Jewish.
- Plays should not have been previously fully produced.
- Plays should be no less than one hour and no more than two hours in length.
- Playwrights must have a pseudonym on the front page of their play so that the jury does not recognize their name.
- Playwrights must be Canadian, or have a very strong Canadian connection.
- Playwrights must include their real name and full contact information in a separate letter or in the body of an email.
- For multiple printing convenience it is preferred that plays be sent via email as an attachment.
- Plays that have been previously submitted to this competition are ineligible.
Prize: *NEW* $1000 for 2010 Competition Winner plus a Between Stages Play Reading at the MNjcc and a Press Release sent to Canadian Arts and Jewish Organizations.
