Lecturer: Dr. Dina Roginsky
Gain understanding of the diverse people and complex issues in Israel today by exploring the social history of the country. The evolution of the State of Israel; Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, religious and secular Jews; Arab populations; Russian and Ethiopian immigrants; the role of the IDF, changes in Kibbutz life, Holocaust commemoration, Zionism, globalization, and Israel-Diaspora relations.
March 1 – Zionist ideology and the origins of modern Israel
March 8 – The Israeli social mosaic: subcultures in Israel
March 15 – Jews and Arabs in Israel: citizenship and conflict
March 22 – Israel is changed and challenged: Globalization and post-Zionism

Dr. Dina Roginsky is a sociologist and anthropologist. She received her PhD from Tel Aviv University and completed a post-doctoral study at New York University. She teaches in the Department of Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations and the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto.
