About this Role
Schedule:
ECE hours of operation are 7:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. The usual shift will be 7.8 hours with a 1-hour lunch break (half paid). Schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the program. Staff must be flexible.
Staff must be available for all mandatory ECE staff meetings. Some are in the evening
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Independently ensure the safety and supervision of children, while working alone and/or with other classroom educators.
Ensure classroom documents are up to date (cleaning logs, attendances, etc.).
Assist and actively supervise the children with the daily routines as required (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground and gym time, during programming time etc.).
Understand and comply with provincial (CCEYA), municipal, and MNjcc policies and procedures.
Maintain and nurturing environment and observe and expand on children’s learning opportunities daily while completing documentation of children’s development and interactions using classroom boards and the Kaymbu app.
Engage with and get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills.
Communicate with educators and management regarding any areas of concern pertaining to the health, safety, and development of children.
Communicate clearly and effectively with families daily and other stakeholders when required.
Attend required curriculum training and professional development opportunities
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada in a childcare setting
Clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us)
Current Standard First Aid/CPR level C
Up-to-date medical including Tuberculosis test and immunization history
Ability to communicate easily and professionally with parents and other staff
Current Food Handlers certificate or willing to obtain
Proficient in the English language with speaking, reading and writing
Able to provide references
Main Competencies:
Preference will be given to ECAs with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or Child Directed Learning program.
Experience working with children ages between 18 months – 5 years is an asset.
Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen? is an asset.
Proficient in the English language with speaking, reading and writing.
Ability to communicate easily and professionally with parents and other staff.

Description
Working within the Thomas & Marjorie Schwartz Preschool Centre (TMSPC) and the Libbie Cowan
Childcare Centre (LCCC), the Early Childhood Assistant will work with other educators to observe
children and implement a stimulating program for the children, while engaging in open communication
with parents and other stakeholders.
Full Time (7.5 hours per day), Monday-Friday, Starting: December 2, 2024
