Early Childhood Assistant Float Position

About this Role

Schedule:

  • Centre hours of operation: 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday – Friday

  • Working hours total 37.5 hours per week and the schedule be confirmed during the interview process (staff must be flexible).

  • Attend staff meetings and professional development outside of centre hours as needed.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess the ability to form strong, trusting relationships with children, parents, and staff.

  • Communicate with educators and management regarding any areas of concern about the health and safety of children.

  • Assist in providing a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the needs of children in all areas of development: instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, and master social skills.

  • Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm,

    professional manner.

  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to supervise children in a variety of settings including

    public spaces and large spaces such as the gymnasium, swimming pool, during transitions taking place inside and outside of the classroom, understanding that our program is based in a large community centre.


  • Assist classroom teachers with implementing daily routines (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground and gym time, during programming time, etc.).

  • Be flexible and able to work independently and be able to learn and follow routines quickly and effectively.

  • Follow a daily schedule covering various classrooms (toddler, preschool, and JK) for lunches and ratio, assist in housekeeping duties i.e. sanitizing tables, toys, and furniture work in the kitchen among other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure classroom documents are up to date (cleaning logs, attendances, etc.)


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be able to legally work in Canada in a childcare setting.

  • Proficient in the English language with speaking, reading and writing, and the ability to relay relevant and timely information and feedback to parents, staff, and children with confidence.

  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR – AED Level C

  • Current and Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

  • Complete Toronto Public Health Medical and Immunization requirements

  • Able to provide references.

  • Previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or Child Directed Learning programs with children from 18 months to 12 years old.

  • Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen?

  • Able to provide references.


Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting salary from $17.20/hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant when eligible.

Description

We are currently looking for a dynamic ECA to work as a full-time float (support) staff to our team of educators in our Toddler, Preschool, JK, and School Age programs at a wonderful community centre.

Full-Time Contract, starting September 3, 2024
