Early Childhood Assistant Toddler Program

About this Role


  • Shift being hired for is 9:00 am-5:30 pm Monday – Friday. Centre hours are 7:30 am-5:30 pm and staff need to be flexible as hours could change.

  • Staff must be available to attend all mandatory ECE staff meetings outside of centre hours.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with other educators and management regarding any areas of concern pertaining to the development, health and safety of children.

  • Get to know each child individually instilling confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, and master other skills as they grow and learn.

  • Assist with implementing daily programming based on children's needs and interests and documenting their learning collaboratively with others.

  • Assist the children with daily routines (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground and gym time, during programming time, transitions etc.).

  • Ensure classroom documents are up-to-date (cleaning logs, attendances, children’s daily Kaymbu reports etc. as required)

  • Ensure all policies mandated by Toronto Public Health, CCEYA Ministry Regulations and MNjcc Early Childhood Centre policies are adhered to at all times, to ensure that the environment is safe, clean and engaging and exceeds the highest quality standards.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Have at least 2 years’ experience working with children, ages 18 months - 2.5 years’ old.

  • Available to work in the downtown area of Toronto.

  • Must be able to legally work in Canada in a childcare setting.

  • Proficient in spoken, reading, and written English language.

  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us).

  • Must have valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C approved by the Canadian Red Cross.

  • Have an up-to-date medical including Tuberculosis test and immunization history.

  • Have food handlers certificate or be willing to obtain.

Main Competencies: 

  • Able to provide references.

  • Use initiative; applies sound reasoning in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.

  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings such as the gymnasium and playground, as well as during all transitions taking place both inside and outside of the classroom, understanding that our program is based in a large community centre.

  • Preference will be given to those with previous experience with inquiry/play based programs, implementation and pedagogical documentation, including Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen?

Salary and Benefits:

  • ECA starting wage from $16.55/hour depending on qualifications and experience; plus, Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant when eligible.
