JCamp Staff (Floater)

About this Role

Schedule:

  • Contract will run from June 23 – August 15

  • 37.5 hours a week

  • 8 hours shifts scheduled between the hours of 8 am-5:30 pm Monday-Friday


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and organize children in attendance during indoor activities, field trips, outdoor play and gym times.

  • Assist Head Staff in delivering theme day activities.

  • Provide additional support to camp staff as needed, filling during staff absences, and covering lunch breaks.

  • Get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, and master social skills.

  • Support the Head Camp Staff with arrivals and dismissals, acting as a first point of contact for families.

  • Cover staff lunch breaks and fill in for staff as needed.

  • Help deliver lunch and snacks to campers.

  • Ensure the kitchen is kept in a clean and organized manner, including supporting with any dishwashing and wiping down counters.

  • Support camp staff in cleaning and maintaining camp spaces.

  • Swim with the children up to three times a week.

  • Show enthusiasm for all facets of camp life.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR-C

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check issued within the past 6 months of the hiring date.

  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada.

  • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children.

  • Previous experience working in a camp setting considered an asst.

  • Self-starter: Ability to work with low supervision.

  • High level of initiative

  • Ability to work as a team.

  • Must be able to communicate easily with parents.

  • Must have an outgoing personality and work well with children.

  • Strong interpersonal skills- must be able to work with a diverse group with differing needs and different backgrounds.

  • Up-to-date immunization record (Tetanus, TB screening)


Salary and Benefits:

  • $17.50 hour, plus eligibility for Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant

  • 2 Personal Emergency Leave Days

  • Gym membership for the duration of the contract

  • Opportunities for additional work at the end of the contract within the Early Childhood Education Department.

Short Description of the Position:
The Summer Camp Staff (Floater) plays an important role in supporting the daily runnings of camp. The Floater must be a highly self-driven individual that will be able to help facilitate daily programs, cover staff lunches, and breaks, and communicate with supervisors and families daily.
