Registered Early Childhood Educator – Preschool Program

About this Role

Work hours:

  • Centre hours of operation are 7:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.

  • RECE will be hired for a 37.5-hour week. The usual shift will be 8 hours with a 1-hour lunch break (half paid).

  • RECE must be flexible hours should the needs of the centre change

  • Must attend mandatory after hours staff meetings

  • September-June, permanent contract with potential extension through for July and August available


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities that incorporates child-directed activities and learning, positive and supportive routines and transition times.

  • Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and redirecting that is age and developmentally appropriate.

  • Provide a welcoming environment that helps the children build confidence, encourages creativity, sharing, cooperation, respect for others and independence.

  • Creates an environment that supports and respects a variety of diverse cultures and family systems.

  • Be willing to learn about and incorporate Jewish curriculum and holidays into programming.

  • RECE must be able to participate in weekly (non-instructional) swim program with children as part of ratio in the water as required.

  • Communicate with the Supervisor regarding any areas of concern regarding the development of children.

  • Monitor indoor and outdoor environment, including play equipment and toys, and report any hazards to the Supervisor.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Centre according to the Toronto Public Health Requirements and centre policies.

  • Ensure that classrooms are appealing to the eye and demonstrate the happenings in the class and will change materials in the class to demonstrate the philosophy of Learn Through Play.

  • Assist children in washing, dressing, toileting, diapering, eating, etc. to develop self-help skills.

  • Administer medication as authorized by physicians and maintain records of all medications administered.

  • Have a constant awareness of children’s allergies and special health conditions and Anaphylaxis and Emergency Medical Plans.

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being needs of the children are met at all times.

  • Perform additional administrative duties including maintenance of children’s records - emergency forms, illness and incident reports, daily attendance, communication books, weekly newsletters to parents (using the Kaymbu app), email correspondence with parents and program documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Physical Demands:

  • Will be required to lift children as necessary.

  • Set up and put away cots for rest time.

  • Other furniture and equipment movement as required.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be able to legally work in Canada and in childcare settings

  • Previous experience with children ages 2.5 - 4 years is an asset

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in licensed childcare settings including experience working with children with exceptionalities.

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology or University or the equivalent.

  • Be a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators

  • Clear vulnerable sector screening done within 6 months of hire date

  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C

  • Up-to-date immunizations and TB test

  • Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act and licensing regulations.

  • Familiarity with Learn Through Play/Elect learning models.

  • Will adhere to the “Privacy Act” and not relay any personal information of families to others and understands the importance of centre issues remaining within the privacy of the centre.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and professionally.

  • Able to adapt to change and be flexible.

  • Possess effective time management, organization and problem-solving skills; and be able to multitask


Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting salary: $37,000 - $40, 000 (based on experience) plus Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant when eligible

Description

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced Registered Early Childhood Educator for its Toddler Program. Preference will be given to RECE’s with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child-Directed learning program. Be a part of this dynamic school where you will have the opportunity to grow with the children. Primary responsibilities include observing children and implementing a stimulating program for the children and open communication with parents.
