Winter JCamp Staff

About this Role

Schedule Information

  • 30 hours a week

  • Tuesday – Friday, 8-hour shift scheduled between the time of 8:00 am and 5:30 pm

  • Contract will run from December 27th 2023 - January 5th 2024

  • Staff will be given a 30-minute unpaid lunch break


Primary Duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise and organize children in attendance during indoor activities, field trips, outdoor play, and gym times.

  • Follow the weekly schedule to ensure campers engage with all programmed activities.

  • Constantly supervise children and adhere to designated camper: staff ratios.

  • Additional administrative tasks, organizational tasks, providing assistance to the Manager of Camps, and other duties as assigned.

  • Read, understand, and adhere to all camp policies.

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for children at all times.

  • Assist campers during lunch and snack times as needed.

  • Swim with the campers two times a week.

  • Address parental concerns and coordinate discussions with multiple levels of staff within the agency to address new or ongoing issues.

  • Communicate with the Assistant Director, JCamps & School Age Programming, and Coordinator, JCamps & School Age Programming daily.

  • Get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, and master social skills.

  • If working with Mini JCamp, assist the children with nap/rest time routine.

  • Show enthusiasm for all facets of camp life.


Bona Fide Occupational Requirements

  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR-C

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police check issued within the past 6 months of the hiring date.

  • Up to date immunization record (Tetanus, TB screening)


Expectations

  • Staff will wear camp uniform every day and keep them in a condition that best reflects the MNjcc


Qualifications

  • Staff must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Must have an outgoing personality and work well with children

  • Ability to communicate easily with parents.

  • Strong interpersonal skills- must be able to work with a diverse group with differing needs and different abilities.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Resilience – must be able to work under pressure

  • Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc


Working Conditions

  • Some work outside of standard work times may be required.


Physical Requirements

  • This position requires some bending and lifting (less than 25 lbs)

Description

The role of Winter JCamp Staff will support the facilitation of Winter JCamp by engaging with and implementing a stimulating program for children and having open communication with families.
