It also hosts regular seasonal camps for kids The Best Indoor Swimming Pools in Toronto: Head to the Freddie Shore Aquatic Centre in this facility right across from Spadina station and you'll be treated to a fully-accessible heated saltw ater pool in the heart of downtown. yelp My whole family has been going to the Bloor JCC since we moved to Toronto many years ago. I now live in the area and spend a ton of time at the gym. It pretty much has it all: - nice facilities - a new basketball court - every type of weight and machine you could need - a saltwater pool - a great saltwater hot tub and wet and dry saunas. While not everyone lives in the neighbourhood, the JCC is perfectly located at Bloor and Spadina right on two subway lines. Most importantly the people who run the place and people I meet by chance are all great. The staff get to know people by name and are super friendly and I have made some good friends just randomly meeting people while working out. pursuit Toronto's Best Gyms: The JCC isn’t just old men sitting in a steam room, complaining. Downtown’s only saltwater pool, complete with three speeds of swimming lanes, makes it a go-to destination for serious swimmers. "How can we have this communal responsibility to meet individual needs? This taught me a lot to learn about conflicts of access...how can we make sure that everyone's access needs are being met?" - Emunah Woolf, LGBTQ at the J Listen “This is a crossroads of the Annex. It’s a crossroad of the TTC system as well. It’s incredibly central. It’s downtown, but not really downtown. It’s certainly not uptown, but everybody can reach us…I will say that there’s no accessible washroom on this strip of like Bloor Street…I don’t think that the Annex is accessible enough,” said Arbeid. Read More I became aware of the wide range of amazing initiatives at different JCCs that create access points for people who historically have been excluded and underrepresented in communal spaces. I learned, for example, about JCCs that host wheelchair basketball and chair yoga; add closed captioning, video description, and/or ASL interpreters to their lectures and film programs; offer a cooling sprinkler at the end of each pool lane so folks with low vision or blindness will sense the drop in temperature and know they’re coming to the end of the lane; and how disability justice education is finding a home in early childhood education settings.
