After School Program Staff

Part-Time Position • 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Monday - Friday (flexible)  •  September to June

 

If you love working with children then this job is for you. We are often looking for committed, reliable people, with friendly and positive attitudes.  The MNjcc After School Program provides age-appropriate, stimulating and safe activities for school-age children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children in the program

  • Escort children from neighbourhood schools to the Miles Nadal JCC

  • Create and deliver age-appropriate programming, taking into account varying levels and abilities of children in the program

  • Come prepared for the day’s activities

  • Provide assistance to fellow staff as needed

  • Supervise children in the program indoors and outdoors; actively engaging with them

  • Assist in conducting surveys for periodic program evaluation

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  •  2-5 years’ experience working with children

  • First Aid and CPR certification

  • Have sufficient computer knowledge in Word and Excel to maintain records

After School Program RECE

Part-Time Position • 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Monday - Friday (flexible)  •  September to June

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced RECE teacher for its After School Program.  Preference will be given to RECE teachers with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child Directed Learning program.  Be a part of this dynamic school where you will have the opportunity to grow with the children. Primary responsibilities include observing children and implementing a stimulating program for the children and open communication with parents.

 

The 2021-2022 After School Program runs from Sept 9th – June 20th Mon-Friday (flexibility with days worked)

Shifts will be scheduled between the hours of 3pm-6pm

 

DURING PERIOD WHERE COVID19 POLICIES ARE IN EFFECT:

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To develop and implement a camp program at an age and developmentally appropriate level for preschoolers.

  • Weekly program plans, including all areas of development, to be handed in one week prior for Supervisor’s approval.

Interactions with Parents:

  • To communicate with parents when necessary in reference to their children. Teachers will speak to parents regarding daily occurrences at school concerning only the child of the parent being spoken to. If there are matters of major concern, teachers will speak to the Supervisor first before speaking with the parents.

  • Teachers will adhere to the “Privacy Act” and not relay any personal information of families to others.

  • Teachers will understand the importance of school issues remaining within the privacy of the school.

Coordinator of School Age Programs (Pregnancy and Parental Leave) 

September 2021 to August 2022

37.5 hours per week  

This position is to ensure that the After School Program, Camps and School’s Out programs are enrolled, staffed and programmed in a fashion that the children will have the best and safest possible experience. Must be available to work a variety of shifts between 8 am - 6 pm.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Working together with the Manager of Camps:

  • Ensuring that the After School program and Camps are being run in a manner that is acceptable to the MNjcc’s policies and guidelines

  • Ensuring that all programs developed and implemented are age appropriate, safe and stimulating for the children and that they follow all Ministry of Education guidelines

  • Ensuring that all programs are staffed according to MNjcc guidelines (non-licensed programs) and Ministry of Education guidelines (for all licensed programs)

  • Working with Director of Marketing to ensure that the public is adequately aware of the programs

  • Booking rooms for all programs throughout the year; ensuring that programs are all entered properly in our CRM software (Amilia)

  • Introducing and touring parents to After School facilities, Camp facilities and building facilities

  • Attending necessary building meetings

  • Maintaining all necessary children’s documents

  • On-going purchasing of supplies

  • Ensuring that foods catered to children are satisfactory

  • Coordinate special events and field trips (where applicable)

  • Preparing of all mandatory packages, allergy lists and ensuring that they are up to date

  • Carry out necessary drills (fire and lock down)

  • Supervising children and maintaining a clean and safe environment for children at all times while inside the MNjcc or away from the building.

  • Building relationships with families of the MNjcc

  • Communicating with parents / guardians about any issues and concerns of children in our programs

  • Coordinating with other programmers within the building – swim, Suzuki, athletics, etc.

  • Assisting Manager of Camps with daily After School responsibilities

  • Being the go-to person for the After School program and Camps in the event that the Manager of Camps is absent or unable to attend to an issue

  • Maintaining a positive attitude whatever the situation

  • Join the children in swim if needed

  • Filling in for staff in the event that a supply cannot be found

  • Filling in for ECE staff in the event that a supply teacher

  • Staff Supervision/Management Responsibilities: (together with Manager of Camps)

    • In charge of all After School and camp staff

    • Acquire supply staff when necessary to adhere to ratio guidelines

    • Hiring of new staff when necessary

    • Training of new and current staff

    • Be a positive role model for the staff and volunteers

    • Meet with staff on on-going basis to discuss all areas of the After School program and Camp

    • Assist in completing annual staff evaluations

  • Interaction with Members and Public: It is important to be available to speak with members and public at any given time. It is the Coordinator’s responsibility to be courteous and helpful to the visitors in the building.

  • Physical Demands:

    • The Coordinator must be able to lift children when necessary. Lifting of boxes and moving of small furniture may also be necessary.

    • Soiled clothing may need to be changed at times. Gloves will be provided for this.

  • Administrative:

    • Inputting all children’s required forms and staff forms into data system

    • Ensuring that all forms are up to date and maintained in an orderly fashion

    • Informing department heads when forms are missing

    • Laminating, photocopying, along with other administrative projects that are given by Manager of Camps

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children.

  • Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Must have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Screening Check.

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Must have an outgoing personality and work well with children

Early Childhood Assistant - Preschool

Part Time (6 hours per day), Monday-Friday. ASAP to June 2022

 

Working within the Preschool Program, the Early Childhood Assistant will work with other educators to observe children and implement a stimulating program for the children, while engaging in open communication with parents and other stakeholders. This position reports to the Preschool Supervisor.

Schedule:

Lifeguards
Part Time, starting December 2021

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Lifeguard will be reporting to the Aquatics Manager and Lesson Coordinators. Lifeguards are responsible for safety, supervision, and first aid response at the Freddie Shore Aquatic Centre at the Miles Nadal JCC. 

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • PPE (mask or face shield) will be provided and must be worn throughout entirety of shift

  • Staff are responsible for completing COVID screening prior to or upon entry to the facility.

  • Staff are required to comply with MNjcc and governmental policies around vaccination - proof of full vaccination is required for all on-site employees.

  • Limited class and pool capacity to ensure distance between swimmers and classes

 

Schedule:

  • Ensures that all safety and lifeguarding procedures are adhered to, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained by the Lifesaving Society and Miles Nadal JCC.

  • Sets up and takes down equipment and inspects equipment to ensure it is in good working condition

  • Conducts facility inspections, completes opening and closing checklists, daily scheduled chemical tests, and advises supervisor of any concerns found

  • Complete accident and incident reports when necessary

  • Provide information to members regarding procedures, programs, schedule, and special events.

  • Maintains a clean and safe environment

Swim Instructors
Part Time, starting December 2021

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Swim Instructor will be reporting to the Aquatics Manager and Lesson Coordinators. Swim Instructors are responsible for providing high quality swimming lessons to participants of all ages and abilities.  Swim Instructors must be comfortable teaching both group and private lessons and all levels of the Red Cross Swim Program.  They will conduct swimming lessons in a safe and enjoyable environment demonstrating good class control and safety supervision.

Customer service is our top priority and Swim instructors will play an important role in helping swimmers achieve their goals through education in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Fitness Floor Staff

Part-Time 

Reporting to the Program Director, Fitness & Wellness, the Fitness Floor Staff are responsible for managing the safe operation and maintenance of the fitness floor.  The Fitness Floor Staff will perform welcome workout orientations and assessments, sell personal training packages, conduct one-on-one member onboarding sessions, answer questions and offer assistance to members.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Greeting members, smiling, engaging in conversation, answering questions, and assisting with general inquires, educating clients on fitness centre etiquette. 

  • Providing instruction, guidance, and/or demonstration of safe exercise techniques and use of fitness equipment and machines.

  • Conducting tours, consultations and orientations according to MNjcc protocols.

  • Maintaining a safe, organized and well-stocked fitness floor by re-racking weights, organizing small equipment, picking up towels or trash, refilling sanitizing wipe containers, and noting any needs of equipment repair.   

  • Completing administrative duties in a timely manner, (e.g., attendance, incident/accident reports,

  • Responding to and/or assisting with on-site emergencies, incidents and accidents, which may involve the provision of Standard First Aid, CPR, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and/or the completion of an accident/incident report, when required.

  • Attending training, workshops, meetings and seminars as required.

  • Understands and adheres to, and enforces MNjcc Policies and Procedures for all staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A current, nationally accredited training certification (CSEP, CanFitPro CPTN, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or equivalent accredited institution.  . 

  • A solid understanding of physical fitness training principles, body movement patterns and the technical aspects of strength and cardiovascular training.

  • A current CPR-C certification.

Starting: December 13, 2021

Part Time 

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Group Fitness Instructor will be reporting to the Program Manager, Member Experience, Fitness & Wellness. The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing high quality, motivating group fitness training.  The Group Fitness Instructor will develop and deliver high quality, motivating fitness class programming for members, and will play a customer service role in helping the members of the MNjcc achieve their fitness goals through education and training in a fitness center setting.

  • Creating and instructing safe, comprehensive, and energetic workouts within the scope of the members abilities.

  • Providing instruction, guidance, and/or demonstration of safe exercise techniques and use of fitness equipment.

  • Creating a fun and welcoming environment for all members.

  • Tidying up and/or cleaning fitness equipment after use.

  • Educating clients on fitness studio etiquette and sign up procedures.

  • Representing the fitness staff in a positive and professional manner at all times. 

  • Greeting members, smiling, engaging in conversation, answering questions, and assisting with general inquires. 

  • Building and sustaining relationships with new and existing MNjcc members.

  • Responding to and/or assisting with on-site emergencies, incidents and accidents, which may involve the provision of Standard First Aid, CPR, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and/or the completion of an accident/incident report, when required.

  • Attending training, workshops, meetings and seminars as required.

  • Understands and adheres to, and enforces MNjcc Policies and Procedures for all staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A current, nationally accredited group fitness certification (CSEP, CanFitPro CPTN, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or equivalent accredited institution). 

  • A solid understanding of physical fitness training principles, body movement patterns and the technical aspects of strength and cardiovascular training.

  • A current CPR-C certification.

  • A Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment for all staff.

Early Childhood Assistant - Toddler Program

Starting: January 24, 2022

Full Time (8 hours per day), Monday-Friday 

Working within the Toddler Childcare program, the Early Childhood Assistant will work with other educators to observe children and implement a stimulating program for the children, while engaging in open communication with parents and other stakeholders.

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • Early Childhood Assistant may be designated to stay with ill children in isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child. Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves and a smock to ensure the health and safety of the staff.

  • Early Childhood Assistant will disinfect any surfaces touched by child in isolation room immediately after child leaving.

  • Early Childhood Assistant will disinfect bathroom surfaces (sink and toilet) after it has been used by a child.

  • Early Childhood Assistant schedules will fluctuate during this period. Regular work hours may not apply.

 

Schedule:

  • 8:30 am-5:30 pm Monday – Friday. Schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the program. Staff must be flexible.

  • Staff must be available for all mandatory ECE staff meetings.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of all children in attendance at the childcare.

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for children at all times.

  • Communicate with the Assistant Director regarding any areas of concern regarding health and safety of children as well as concerns with specific children.

  • Get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills.

  • Assist and supervise the children with the daily routines as required (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground and gym time, during programming time etc.).

  • Ensure classroom documents are up-to-date (cleaning logs, attendances, etc.)

  • Work in tandem with other educators to ensure the health and safety of the children and program areas are maintained.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada in a child care setting.

  • Please note that full vaccination against covid-19 (or valid accommodation) is currently required to work in-person at the MNjcc at this time.

  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us)

  • Current First Aid/CPR level C

  • Ability to communicate easily and professionally with parents and other staff

  • Able to provide references

 

Main Competencies:

  • Preference will be given to ECAs with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or

  • Child Directed Learning program.

  • Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen? is an asset.
