Current Job & Volunteer Postings

To ensure the success of the Early Childhood Department, the Supervisor will work with the Director of Early Childhood Education (DECE) and the Assistant Director (ADECE) to ensure that early childhood programs run effectively. The Libbie Cowan Childcare Centre and the Thomas & Marjorie Schwartz Preschool Centre are programs of excellence for children from 18 months through Junior Kindergarten. With a strong focus on inclusion and informed by ELECT, How Does Learning Happen and the JCCA Sheva framework, the Supervisor will collaborate with educators to provide developmentally appropriate programming for the children in our program.

Schedule:

37.5 hours per week, Full Time, Year Round.

Due to the hours of operation of the Early Childhood Department, the ECE Supervisor must be available to work a variety of different shifts. Occasional evenings will be required to attend staff meetings and other professional development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementing the J's Vision, Mission and Values and the Director’s vision and objectives for the early childhood programs aligned with the Program Statement, ensuring compliance at all times with Ministry licensing requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act.

  • The Supervisor is a direct link and liaison between the ECE Director, TMSPC and LCCC parents, TMSPC and LCCC teachers, Finance, Marketing and other departments.

  • Be the primary point of contact for the TMSPC and LCCC staff for day-to-day operation of the program. The Supervisor will be a contact for TMSPC and LCCC children and families.

  • Help develop and maintain programming to enhance the cultural, educational, physical, mental, and social well-being of JCC early childhood participants.

  • Training of staff, assisting teachers with program planning and ensuring classrooms meet or exceed licensing requirements

  •  Liaising with outside resources, when necessary, i.e., speech, occupational therapists, etc.

  • Lifting of young children/furniture when necessary

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 – 5 years of experience working in an early childhood setting

  • Clear/no relevant information from a VSS check/Criminal Reference Check

  • Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc

  • Current RECE and member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario or currently registered in an accredited ECE program leading to an RECE

Early Childhood Supervisor

Starting: June 2022

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, Lifeguards will be reporting to the Aquatics Manager and Lesson Coordinators. Lifeguards are responsible for safety, supervision, and first aid response at the Freddie Shore Aquatic Centre at the Miles Nadal JCC. 

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • PPE (mask or face shield) will be provided and must be worn throughout entirety of shift

  • Staff are required to comply with MNjcc and governmental policies around vaccination - proof of full vaccination is required for all on-site employees.

Schedule:

  • Various shifts available during regular business hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all safety and lifeguarding procedures are adhered to, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained by the Lifesaving Society and Miles Nadal JCC.

  • Ensures that members and staff adhere to pool conduct guidelines and use a proactive approach to ensuring safety and accident prevention.

  • Sets up and takes down equipment and inspects equipment to ensure it is in good working condition

  • Conducts facility inspections, completes opening and closing checklists, daily scheduled chemical tests, and advises supervisor of any concerns found

  • Complete accident and incident reports when necessary

  • Provide information to members regarding procedures, programs, schedule, and special events.

  • Maintains a clean and safe environment

  • Depending on shift, responsible for opening and/or closing procedures

Lifeguards

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Swim Instructor will be reporting to the Aquatics Manager and Lesson Coordinators. Swim Instructors are responsible for providing high-quality swimming lessons to participants of all ages and abilities.  Swim Instructors must be comfortable teaching both group and private lessons and all levels of the Red Cross Swim Program.  They will conduct swimming lessons in a safe and enjoyable environment demonstrating good class control and safety supervision.

Customer service is our top priority and Swim instructors will play an important role in helping swimmers achieve their goals through education in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Swim Instructors

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children in the program

  • Escort children from neighbourhood schools to the Miles Nadal JCC

  • Create and deliver age-appropriate programming, taking into account varying levels and abilities of children in the program

  • Come prepared for the day’s activities

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced RECE teacher for its After School Program.  Preference will be given to RECE teachers with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child-Directed Learning program.  Be a part of this dynamic school where you will have the opportunity to grow with the children. Primary responsibilities include observing children and implementing a stimulating program for the children and open communication with parents.

Interactions with Parents:

Reporting to the Program Director, Fitness & Wellness, the Fitness Floor Staff are responsible for managing the safe operation and maintenance of the fitness floor.  The Fitness Floor Staff will perform welcome workout orientations and assessments, sell personal training packages, conduct one-on-one member onboarding sessions, answer questions and offer assistance to members.

  • Greeting members, smiling, engaging in conversation, answering questions, and assisting with general inquires, educating clients on fitness centre etiquette. 

  • Providing instruction, guidance, and/or demonstration of safe exercise techniques and use of fitness equipment and machines.

  • Conducting tours, consultations and orientations according to MNjcc protocols.

  • Maintaining a safe, organized and well-stocked fitness floor by re-racking weights, organizing small equipment, picking up towels or trash, refilling sanitizing wipe containers, and noting any needs of equipment repair.   

  • Completing administrative duties in a timely manner, (e.g., attendance, incident/accident reports,

  • Responding to and/or assisting with on-site emergencies, incidents and accidents, which may involve the provision of Standard First Aid, CPR, the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and/or the completion of an accident/incident report, when required.

  • Attending training, workshops, meetings and seminars as required.

  • Understands and adheres to, and enforces MNjcc Policies and Procedures for all staff.

Fitness Floor Staff
Part time

As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Group Fitness Instructor will be reporting to the Program Manager, Member Experience, Fitness & Wellness. The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing high quality, motivating group fitness training.  The Group Fitness Instructor will develop and deliver high quality, motivating fitness class programming for members, and will play a customer service role in helping the members of the MNjcc achieve their fitness goals through education and training in a fitness centre setting.

Part-Time 

Do you have a passion for helping people achieve their health and fitness goals? We are looking for positive, motivated individuals with an education and practical background in personal training. Under the supervision of the Director of Fitness and Wellness, MNjcc Personal Trainers perform orientations and fitness assessments, sell personal training packages, and conduct one-on-one training sessions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote the MNjcc personal training program through orientations, tours and fitness floor shifts

  • Contact interested members within 24 hours of receiving a lead.

  • Maintain a client base by selling new packages, and encouraging current clients to continue.

  • Assist in development and implementation of new programs and classes.

  • Develop safe and effective exercise programs utilizing all principles of personal training.

  • Train clients on safe and proper excercise technique

  • Maintain up-to-date client records and accountability for tracking pending client appointments.

  • Attend all mandatory Personal Trainer meetings, and professional development courses deemed necessary by the Director of Fitness & Wellness.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Personal Trainers

We are currently looking to expand our supply staff list. We are seeking a dynamic RECE or ECA who is looking to join a great team of educators in our Toddler, Preschool, JK and School Age programs at a wonderful community centre. Supply staff will cover our regular staff absences or provide additional support to our classrooms. This position may lead to full-time hours if required based on the needs of our programs.

Supply Teacher > Early Childhood Education

The Program Coordinator will support the Department Manager in ensuring the Wagner Green Centre for Access & Inclusion is fulfilling the MNjcc’s inclusion mandate through programming coordination, partnership relationships, and liaising with other departments. Major areas of focus will include the Centre’s weekly social and learning programs and assisting with logistics for the ReelAbilities Film Festival of Toronto’s ongoing activities and events.

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • Early Childhood Educator may be designated to stay with ill children in isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child. Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves and a smock to ensure the health and safety of the staff.

  • Early Childhood Educator will disinfect any surfaces touched by child in isolation room immediately after child leaving.

  • Early Childhood Educator will disinfect bathroom surfaces (sink and toilet) after it has been used by a child.

  • Early Childhood Educator schedules will fluctuate during this period. Regular work hours may not apply.

Schedule:

  • Full-time set schedule will be given

  • Will be hired for a 37.5-hour work week

  • ECE must be flexible hours should needs of the centre change

  • Must attend mandatory after hours staff meetings

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities that incorporates child-directed activities and learning, positive and supportive routines and transition times.

  • Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and redirecting that is age and developmentally appropriate.

  • Provide a welcoming environment that helps the children build confidence, encourages creativity, sharing, cooperation, respect for others and independence.

  • Creates an environment that supports and respects a variety of diverse cultures and families systems.

  • Communicate with the Supervisor regarding any areas of concern regarding development of children.

  • Monitor indoor and outdoor environment, including play equipment and toys, and report any hazards to the Supervisor.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Centre according to the Toronto Public Health Requirements and centre policies.

  • Ensure that classrooms are appealing to the eye and demonstrate the happenings in the class and will change materials in the class to demonstrate the philosophy of Learn Through Play.

  • Assist children in washing, dressing, toileting, diapering, eating, etc. to develop self-help skills.

  • Administer medication as authorized by physicians and maintains records of all medications administered.

  • Have a constant awareness of children’s allergies and special health conditions and Anaphylaxis and Emergency Medical Plans.

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being needs of the children are met at all times.

  • Perform additional administrative duties including maintenance of children’s records - emergency forms, illness and incident reports, daily attendance, communication books, daily children’s logs for meals/diapering/naps, weekly newsletters to parents (using the Kaymbu app) and documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized Community College or University

  • Previous experience with toddlers is an asset

  • Experience working with children with varied abilities

  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Education

  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us)

  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C, to be renewed every 3 years

  • Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act and licensing regulations.

  • Familiarity with Learn Through Play/Elect learning models.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and professionally.

  • Able to adapt to change and be flexible.

  • Possess effective time management, organization and problem solving skills; and be able to multitask

The Project Support and Documentation Lead (PSDL) will work alongside the Administrative and Accessibility Support Lead (AASL) to provide participant and project support throughout the duration of the Accessible Writers’ Lab project. The PSDL will also be responsible for documenting project activities, processes, and learnings to assist with the writing of the interim and final project reports.

Schedule:

  • Approximately 10-15 hours/week, with flexible scheduling to be arranged with the Festival Manager prior to the start date.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • documenting project activities and compiling and organizing resource materials; 

  • writing interim and final narrative reports, alongside project staff; 

  • providing direct application support to applicants upon request; 

  • attending all project meetings and workshops and providing note-taking services for project participants and minute-taking for project staff; 

  • supporting the AASL with outreach, submission intake, and other project activities, as needed; 

  • ensuring accessibility best practices in communication with staff, applicants, and participants; 

  • providing ongoing and frequent updates and communications to other project staff regarding project activities, including participant feedback; 

  • providing Festival Manager with accurate timesheets of hours worked on a bi-weekly basis.  

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalency. 

  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to collate and communicate complex information. 

  • Experience with accessibility coordination (such as booking CART and ASL Interpretation) or one-on-one accessibility support is an asset. 

  • Experience working with marginalized communities, specifically Deaf and/or disability communities. 

  • Strong computer skills, and proficiency with Google Suite preferred. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently.

The Administrative and Accessibility Support Lead (AASL) will be responsible for managing outreach, submissions intake, accessibility coordination, and other administrative duties and processes related to the Accessible Writers Lab, and will work jointly with the Project Support and Documentation Lead.

  • Approximately 10-15 hours/week, with flexible scheduling to be arranged with the Festival Manager prior to the start date.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • coordinating the virtual submission intake process and handling direct communication with applicants and program participants; 

  • carrying out direct outreach to Deaf/disability arts-based and film-related organizations; 

  • communicating with project participants to assess accessibility needs and booking services with service providers; 

  • tracking, distributing, and collecting agreements and invoices relating to the project, and maintaining updated budget spreadsheets; 

  • scheduling project activities, including booking virtual meetings; 

  • ensuring accessibility best practices in communication with staff, applicants, and participants, as well as outreach contacts; 

  • providing ongoing and frequent updates and communications to other project staff regarding project activities, including participant feedback 

  • providing Festival Manager with accurate timesheets of hours worked on a bi-weekly basis.

Administrative and Accessibility Support Lead

The Membership Associate is responsible for supporting the Coordinator of Membership Sales and Retention and Manager of Membership Sales and Retention in maintaining a clean, friendly, safe and professional fitness centre while achieving all personal sales targets.

Changes due to Covid-19 Pandemic:

  • The Membership Associate position requires on-site presence. As such, PPE will be provided and must be worn throughout entirety of shift. Staff are responsible for completing covid screening prior to or upon entry to the facility. Proof of full vaccination status is required in accordance with MNjcc and governmental policies.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

  • Evening and weekend work required

Key Duties and Responsibilities:​​

  • Achieve performance metrics (KPI’s) – lead generation, appointments, tours, sales

  • Assist in the implementation of assigned marketing and promotional campaigns

  • Participate in lead generation activities and outreach events

  • Utilize all sales tools, systems and resources

  • Participate and contribute to a high energy, J-thinking culture

  • Handle customer complaints in a prompt, courteous and professional manner

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc

  • Familiarity with CRM databases – Amilia an asset

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel an asset

  • Experience in the fitness industry preferred, not mandatory

Volunteer at JCamp > Summer 2022
 

Camp runs from July 4 - August 19 and volunteers should commit on a weekly basis.
Shifts will be scheduled between the hours of 9:00am to 4:00pm.

 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
•        Supervise and organize children in attendance during indoor activities, field trips, outdoor play and gym times.
•        Assist Camp Staff with delivering themed day activities.
•        Support with set up and take down of gym materials as needed.
•        Assist with field trips as needed.
•        Provide support to camp staff as needed.
•        Help prepare lunch/snack.
•        Ensure kitchen is kept in a clean and organized manner, including supporting with dish-washing, wiping down counters etc.
•        Support camp staff in cleaning and maintaining camp spaces.
•        Constantly supervising children and adhering to designated camper: staff ratios
•        Reading, understanding and adhering to all camp policies
•        Maintain a clean and safe environment for children at all times
•        Swimming with the children daily. If applicable
•        Getting to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills
•        Approach members and families in a friendly manner so they feel welcome.
•        Staff will adhere to the “Privacy Act” and not relay any personal information of families to others.
•        Assist the children with nap/rest time routines
•        Assist the children with lunch and snack routines
