After School Program Staff

Part-Time Position • 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Monday - Friday (flexible)  •  September to June

 

If you love working with children then this job is for you. We are often looking for committed, reliable people, with friendly and positive attitudes.  The MNjcc After School Program provides age-appropriate, stimulating and safe activities for school-age children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children in the program

  • Escort children from neighbourhood schools to the Miles Nadal JCC

  • Create and deliver age-appropriate programming, taking into account varying levels and abilities of children in the program

  • Come prepared for the day’s activities

  • Provide assistance to fellow staff as needed

  • Supervise children in the program indoors and outdoors; actively engaging with them

  • Assist in conducting surveys for periodic program evaluation

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  •  2-5 years’ experience working with children

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (in the 6 months prior to hiring)

  • Up to date Immunization Record (Tetanus, TB screening)

  • Have sufficient computer knowledge in Word and Excel to maintain records

HR Associate 

Permanent Full-Time Salaried • Start date: October 2021

The Human Resources Department at the MNjcc is responsible for shepharding employees and contractors throughout their life-cycle with the organization, with the goal of creating an enjoyable work experience, and maximizing productivity. The HR Associate will provide back-up to the Manager of HR in fulfilling HR functions including recruitment and selection, onboarding, performance management, responding to employee and supervisor concerns, ensuring accurate payroll, as well as furthering the MNjcc diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies. This position is an entry level role, great for someone who wants to build experience to start a career in Human Resources.

Schedule: 

Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5pm (37.5 hours per week), but the position can accommodate flexibility

Work will start predominantly remote, but as covid becomes less of a factor, more in-person work will be needed.  

Evening and weekend work may, on a rare occasion, be required.

Reports to:

  • Manager of Human Resources 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Hiring, Contracts, and Onboarding:

  • Helping MNjcc supervisors through the hiring process including collecting hire information and documentation, and preparing draft contracts. Meeting with new hires and introducing them to the MNjcc.

Payroll and Time Off:

  • In collaboration with the payroll team, ensure that employees are correctly entered into the MNjcc HRIS/Payroll system. Assist supervisors in submitting payroll and entering time off for their staff

Policies and Document Management:

  • Adopt initiatives to improve processes and/or systems to build efficiencies with a focus on the customer needs and expectations to ensure the Managing employee files (yeah, it’s filing.. hopefully soon to be almost entirely electronic filing) and ensuring staff are aware of all relevant policies.

 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Be an active voice pushing to increase DEI across the MNjcc and advocating for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion across all HR functions. Be an employee advocate.

Employee Relations:

  • Supporting Supervisors and employees in managing interpersonal conflict

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience in an Human Resources environment or a supervisory role is an asset.

  • A degree or certificate in Human Resources or working towards accreditation is an asset.

  • A CHRP designation or working towards such a designation is an asset.

  • Technically adept – be able to quickly learn how to use different technical systems.

  • Familiarity with ADP’s Workforce now or a different payroll system or HRIS is an asset.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – with an emphasis on Excel and Word.

  • Familiarity with diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression practices.

  • Working knowledge of human rights and employment legislation in Ontario.

  • Having a sense of humour helps.

  • A clear (or no relevant issues) criminal reference check.

After School Program RECE

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced RECE teacher for its After School Program.  Preference will be given to RECE teachers with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child Directed Learning program.  Be a part of this dynamic school where you will have the opportunity to grow with the children. Primary responsibilities include observing children and implementing a stimulating program for the children and open communication with parents.

 

The 2021-2022 After School Program runs from Sept 9th – June 20th Mon-Friday (flexibility with days worked)

Shifts will be scheduled between the hours of 3pm-6pm

 

DURING PERIOD WHERE COVID19 POLICIES ARE IN EFFECT:

  • staff may be designated to stay with ill children in isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child. Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves and a smock to ensure the health and safety of the staff.

  • staff will disinfect bathroom surfaces (sink and toilet) after it has been used by a child

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To develop and implement a camp program at an age and developmentally appropriate level for preschoolers.

  • Weekly program plans, including all areas of development, to be handed in one week prior for Supervisor’s approval.

  • To ensure the safety of all children in attendance at the After School Program

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for children at all times

  • Communicate with the Supervisor regarding any areas of concern regarding health and safety of children as well as concerns with specific children

  • Supervise children during daily outdoor and gym times

  • Getting to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills

  • Teachers will read and agree to all school policies as set out by the Director and Ministry of Education

  • Do daily playground inspection and record results

  • Do daily health inspection of children

  • Teachers will be required to assist the children with lunch and snack routines

Interactions with Parents:

  • To communicate with parents when necessary in reference to their children. Teachers will speak to parents regarding daily occurrences at school concerning only the child of the parent being spoken to. If there are matters of major concern, teachers will speak to the Supervisor first before speaking with the parents.

  • Teachers will adhere to the “Privacy Act” and not relay any personal information of families to others.

  • Teachers will understand the importance of school issues remaining within the privacy of the school.

Coordinator of School Age Programs (Pregnancy and Parental Leave) 

September 2021 to August 2022

37.5 hours per week  

This position is to ensure that the After School Program, Camps and School’s Out programs are enrolled, staffed and programmed in a fashion that the children will have the best and safest possible experience. Must be available to work a variety of shifts between 8 am - 6 pm.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Working together with the Manager of Camps:

  • Ensuring that the After School program and Camps are being run in a manner that is acceptable to the MNjcc’s policies and guidelines

  • Ensuring that all programs developed and implemented are age appropriate, safe and stimulating for the children and that they follow all Ministry of Education guidelines

  • Ensuring that all programs are staffed according to MNjcc guidelines (non-licensed programs) and Ministry of Education guidelines (for all licensed programs)

  • Working with Director of Marketing to ensure that the public is adequately aware of the programs

  • Booking rooms for all programs throughout the year; ensuring that programs are all entered properly in our CRM software (Amilia)

  • Introducing and touring parents to After School facilities, Camp facilities and building facilities

  • Attending necessary building meetings

  • Maintaining all necessary children’s documents

  • On-going purchasing of supplies

  • Ensuring that foods catered to children are satisfactory

  • Coordinate special events and field trips (where applicable)

  • Preparing of all mandatory packages, allergy lists and ensuring that they are up to date

  • Carry out necessary drills (fire and lock down)

  • Supervising children and maintaining a clean and safe environment for children at all times while inside the MNjcc or away from the building.

  • Building relationships with families of the MNjcc

  • Communicating with parents / guardians about any issues and concerns of children in our programs

  • Coordinating with other programmers within the building – swim, Suzuki, athletics, etc.

  • Assisting Manager of Camps with daily After School responsibilities

  • Being the go-to person for the After School program and Camps in the event that the Manager of Camps is absent or unable to attend to an issue

  • Maintaining a positive attitude whatever the situation

  • Join the children in swim if needed

  • Filling in for staff in the event that a supply cannot be found

  • Filling in for ECE staff in the event that a supply teacher

  • Staff Supervision/Management Responsibilities: (together with Manager of Camps)

    • In charge of all After School and camp staff

    • Acquire supply staff when necessary to adhere to ratio guidelines

    • Hiring of new staff when necessary

    • Training of new and current staff

    • Be a positive role model for the staff and volunteers

    • Meet with staff on on-going basis to discuss all areas of the After School program and Camp

    • Assist in completing annual staff evaluations

  • Interaction with Members and Public: It is important to be available to speak with members and public at any given time. It is the Coordinator’s responsibility to be courteous and helpful to the visitors in the building.

  • Physical Demands:

    • The Coordinator must be able to lift children when necessary. Lifting of boxes and moving of small furniture may also be necessary.

    • Soiled clothing may need to be changed at times. Gloves will be provided for this.

  • Administrative:

    • Inputting all children’s required forms and staff forms into data system

    • Ensuring that all forms are up to date and maintained in an orderly fashion

    • Informing department heads when forms are missing

    • Laminating, photocopying, along with other administrative projects that are given by Manager of Camps

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children.

  • Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Must have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Screening Check.

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Up to date immunization record (tetanus, TB Screening)

  • Must have an outgoing personality and work well with children

  • Able to communicate easily with parents

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced Registered Early Childhood Educator for its Toddler Program. Preference will be given to RECE’s with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child-Directed-Learning program.   • Early Childhood Educator will read and agree to all school policies as set out by the Director and Ministry of Education.

  • Conduct daily health inspections of children, record all illness, inform the Supervisor and parents.

  • All staff that is recognized as an RECE in the classroom must be currently registered with the CECE.

  • Must be capable of working collaboratively with others to ensure that proper programming and care is given to all children.

  • Will follow the Program Statement criteria as set out by the Ministry of Education and the Director of ECE.

  • Teachers will do ongoing training to ensure that they are up to date on current teaching practices.

  • Early Childhood Educator will write weekly newsletters to be sent out to parents via Kaymbu app.

  • Early Childhood Educator will take pictures and documentation throughout the week of the children’s learning.

  • Teachers will ensure that classrooms are appealing to the eye and demonstrate the happenings in the class.

  • Teachers will change materials in the class to demonstrate the philosophy of Learn Through Play

Aquatics Manager (Hiring Immediately)

 

Short Description of the Position: 

The Manager, Freddie Shore Aquatic Centre is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective and efficient operation of all Aquatic programming and activities offered at the MNjcc, taking place in our accessible saltwater pool and excellent classroom facilities. The Aquatics Manager is responsible for ensuring that the varying programming needs of the members and potential members are met. The ultimate goal is to attract new members and families to the MNjcc, guiding them through an aquatics journey, through excellent ongoing service to all members and guests, leading to ongoing member and user retention. 

 

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) in a collaborative, well-paced environment. As the MNjcc is open seven (7) days per week, the schedule includes some evenings and weekends. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

It is the responsibility of every employee at the Miles Nadal JCC to promote a culture of welcoming, diversity, inclusion and respect for all members of the community: participants and visitors, staff and volunteers, donors and partners. 

Customer Service (ongoing): Ensure that all members, guests and staff are served in a professional manner and demonstrate customer service leadership. 

---Staff Management (30%) 

Recruit, hire, train and provide direction, and assist assigned aquatic staff in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities. 

---Program Planning and Implementation (40%) 

Design and execute unique, competitive, and comprehensive aquatics programs and activities that offer participants the highest quality aquatic opportunities while achieving the organizational objectives of the MNjcc. 

---Administration and Finance (30%) 

Prepare, manage, and meet annual aquatics budget in collaboration with the General Manager (Interim process, with the Chief Operating and Financial Officer) 

Oversee effective administration of the aquatic operation. 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

· College or University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of experience 

· Minimum 2 years experience in supervisory role in aquatics setting 

· Minimum 3 years experience working in the aquatics industry Required: Current SFA w/ CPR-c, NLS, LSI, WSI 

· Preferred: Current FAI, LSIT, WSIT, CPO an asset 

· Computer experience (Microsoft Office, CRM software, data entry, database use, working in a networked environment) 

· Clear communication skills, both written and oral 

· Clear/no relevant information from a VSS check/Criminal Reference Check 

· Ability to legally work in Canada/Ontario/for the MNjcc 

· Documentation of full vaccination against COVID-19
