After School Program Staff

Part-Time Position • 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Monday - Friday (flexible)  •  September to June


If you love working with children then this job is for you. We are often looking for committed, reliable people, with friendly and positive attitudes.  The MNjcc After School Program provides age-appropriate, stimulating and safe activities for school-age children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children in the program

  • Escort children from neighbourhood schools to the Miles Nadal JCC

  • Create and deliver age-appropriate programming, taking into account varying levels and abilities of children in the program

  • Come prepared for the day’s activities

  • Provide assistance to fellow staff as needed

  • Supervise children in the program indoors and outdoors; actively engaging with them

  • Assist in conducting surveys for periodic program evaluation


Qualifications and Requirements:

  •  2-5 years’ experience working with children

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (in the 6 months prior to hiring)

  • Up to date Immunization Record (Tetanus, TB screening)

  • Have sufficient computer knowledge in Word and Excel to maintain records

  • Knowledge and compliance of health regulations

  • Ability to communicate comfortably with parents and other staff

Conductor, Miles Nadal JCC Community Choir

Beginning August 2021

The MNjcc Community Choir is a group of passionate diverse singers who come together as a strong community, and find fulfillment through their shared joy of creating music.

Reports to:

  • Manager, MNjcc Music Programs

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule auditions and screen applicants.

  • Create a calendar for the season that includes rehearsals, sectionals, concerts, and special events.

  • Program choral repertoire.

  • Advise on the purchase and/or rental of music, within program budget.

  • Create recorded tracks for each piece music that will be rehearsed, for SATB.

  • Email weekly updates to choir members.

  • Answer choir member questions and concerns both by email and/or by phone within 48 hours.

  • Prepare the choir for end of year concert (when it is safe to do so) and liaise with the Coordinator of Arts and Culture on concert equipment, marketing, ticketing and technical needs.

  • Actively promote the choir concerts to inspire choir members and friends to promote as well

  • Participate in the MNjcc Community Choir’s Facebook page to sustain that online community.

  • Liaise with Manager of Music Programs on next year’s fiscal budget in late winter.

  • Liaise with Manager of Music Programs on submission of content for the website, and content for quarterly “Music at the J” e-newsletter.

  • Liaise with Coordinator Adult Arts and Culture on room bookings, including equipment, and room set-up (when safe to meet in person).

  • Initiate, and collaborate on MNjcc programming partnerships to build community.

  • Supervise/advise the assistant conductor, and accompanist.

  • Nurture and lead a learning atmosphere of harmony, community, camaraderie, respect, excellence, and fun.

  • Attend music department meetings, when they resume.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada.

  • 2- 5 years adult choir conductor experience.

  • University degree in music/music performance preferred or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Candidates must have experience leading a virtual choir, and will be asked to conduct a sub-set of choir members, online, as part of the hiring process.

  • Well-versed in popular genres of choral music – including world, pop, folk, showtunes, traditional gospel, classical, American songbook, plus an interest in culturally inclusive Jewish music, or influences.

  • Candidates should be open to conducting and teaching songs in Jewish languages, (i.e. Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, etc.). If necessary, other MNjcc programming departments will provide pronunciation assistance/support.

  • Creative, energetic, disciplined and playful.  

  • Reside close enough to Toronto to attend in-person rehearsals (when they resume safely).

  • Knowledge of operating Zoom as an administrator, Outlook, MS Word and Excel.


  • August: Auditioning new members

  • First rehearsal of 2021-2022 season Wednesday October 6, 2021

  • Wednesday evenings. 3 hours maximum with 2 hours being devoted to singing.


Pay and Benefits:

  • This is a 2 year contract with the possibility of renewal.

  • $6,300 per year

  • Limited complimentary access to the MNjcc fitness centre (when applicable)

  • Complimentary tickets to virtual Arts & Culture, Jewish Community programs and events, and, when safe to do so, live programming.
